As of October 5, 2011, the world lost a great man; a man whose brilliant mind, hard work, dedication, and creativity impacted the entire world. Steve Jobs changed the way we work, communicate with others, and entertain ourselves. He and Apple were able to create powerful technological tools and make them accessible not only to the government and big corporations, but the regular people as well.

Web video wouldn’t be what it is today without the innovations and hard work of Steve Jobs. Here are the many ways he has impacted web video:

In 1976, Steve Jobs and his best friend Steve Wozniak went into business together and founded Apple Computer. The Apple 1 computer went on sale that summer for $666.66

1977 – Apple II was released, and it was the first personal computer that produced color graphics

In 1984, Apple aired a commercial during the superbowl, and written on the television screen were the words:

“On January 24th, Apple computer will introduce Macintosh. And you’ll see why 1984 won’t be like 1984.”

This was the start of a new world in which small, independednt filmmakers could compete with Hollywood studios and big time filmmakers.

In 1986, he bought PIXAR movie studios from George Lucas for $18 million. At that time, PIXAR’s focus was on commercials. But when one of its commercials, “Tin Toy,” won an academy award in 1988, Jobs decided to start making movies.

In 1998, The iMac was released to the public. It was internet-ready, and was the first to not use the floppy disc. Instead, it came with a slot for a CD-Rom. It had a futuristic style to it, complete with curved edges.

The iBook was introduced in 1999, equipped with Wi-Fi technology. Also that year, Jobs and Apple came out with the iMovie, a program that makes it easy to edit a video and send to You-Tube or Facebook, not to mention Final Cut Pro, a video editing product used to create digital video.

In 2001, he invented the iPod, a sleek, simple, and stylish device with an numerous songs.

In 2003, Jobs and Apple came out with the iSight cam, a digital video camera.

In 2005, the iSight cameras were conveniently placed right inside the macs. On May 5th, iTunes version 4.8 permitted users to import and organize video clips. On Oct. 12th, iTunes version 6.0 let people buy and watch videos from the online iTune music store.

The video I-pod came out in 2006.

In 2007, Apple TV made its debut.

Since then, the i-phone, i-pod touch, and the i-pad were invented; allowing new ways for users to watch videos.
